Case 3: Metal Free Fillings

This patient was unhappy with the presence of metal in her mouth. She did her own research and discovered that "amalgam fillings" contain "copper, tin, zinc, silver and mercury". She wants to remove these elements from her teeth. She elected to replace the silver fillings with a direct restoration of composite filling material. This provides an esthetic value in addition to releasing fluoride into the surrounding tooth structure.
